I just want to explain my reason for voting 'yes' for 2 categories. If we're going to have winners, it's not fair to lump everyone into a single judging category. If we do that, the beginners will never really get a chance to win.

I totally agree with Vicki.
I would like to hear why people like it or not.
If you want you can leave your comments here or email private comments, that would be fine.
We have had 2 successful challenges already, & I would like some feedback on what people think. I do not take remarks as criticizing, I am always looking to improve this challenge.
I am trying to make this challenge enjoyable & I try take everything into consideration. Ü

I like the two category concept. I entered last time in the advanced catagory and may do so next time. I'm not all that experienced, though, and it is nice toknow I can enter in the other category if I feel like I'm in above my head.
I also want to tell those that read these comments how helpful it was for me to get the judges' remarks about my last entry. These judges know what they are talking about and I learned from their observations. that's what this is all about. Having fun, expanding your talents and learning more as you go. A win/win situation if I ever heard of one.

Two categories will be good. It will allow the newcomers to be more comfortable in entering the Challenge. But don't underestimate their potential. Many amateurs are better than some so-called "professionals." I won a Best-In-Show years ago in the first competition I ever entered. Afterwards, I was kinda concerned that I may have stepped on some toes. Now that I am "advanced", I don't feel threatened by anyone. Win or lose, my feelings won't be hurt. This is not competition to me, it is sharing a gift that God gave me. He sets 'em up and I just press the button. We are all winners here. So get out there and show us your best stuff.
Cheers

Yesterday, I couldn't spell fotograffer, now I are one.
I voted yes because I like two categories better than one -- I'd still really like to see an intermediate category too (but I know how much extra work that would be). Martha
I like the two as I think it is less intimidating to some.

like martha...i think that an intermediate category would be good, but realize how much more work that would be. at least with the beginner and advanced, most who participate will feel comfortable entering.

If you don't have a beginners you will not be encouraging those just starting out because the advance will likely win more often. What is your goal? Do you have 2 goals?
I voted for having only one category because it seems like the photos in the beginners category which won look just as good as the ones in the advanced section. But you won't be able to please everyone....two categories does make it less intimidating, which I hadn't thought about when I voted. It would be helpful to me to get some feedback on what we could do to improve...right now I'm just guessing....:)..not so much why we didn't win but one thing we could do better...that's what interests me. I feel like I never get it with photo contests...seems like choice of approach is one key. I'll keep trying. Next week I'll be unable to upload photos due to not being near my home computer. I may have to skip the next contest! But where I'm going should present lots of photo opportunities. Maria
I like the two categories as it allows for those a bit timid about entering their photos to take part.

I think it's the only fair way. -Missy
I feel there should definitely be two categories. I also want to point out the clarification made here in a past post about what it means to be an advanced photographer. It's less intimidating, knowing I can submit an entry into the challenge and not have to worry that even though I know nothing of f stops and the like, I still have something worth contributing because it's just plain nice to look at. I think others ~ especially newcomers ~ would feel the same.
But if something changed, I would still take part because it's also FUN! I look forward to every aspect of the challenge ~ especially seeing so many wonderful photos!
