Changes....Ch ch ch changes

Vicki & I have decided to make a few changes on this Community Photo  Challenge.  Some people do not like the idea of judging & voting on images that are entered.
I wanted this challenge to be fun & also a learning/sharing experience for everyone, I wanted to get more people involved in photography. We thought by adding a competition would make it a little more interesting.   There are just 1 or 2 that are looking for that recognition where they can call themselves award winning photographers, but the majority seem to want to do it for fun.  I know what it is like to get an award for the first time.....or have photos displayed on a main AOL People Connection page.  It's a good feeling to get some recognition.  That was the main reason for the competition.  It became to much work to get others involved so with that said, we will eliminate the voting, for now.

I will keep it this way for the time being.  If I see an interest in the competition, maybe we will continue...... & MIGHT still have 2 categories, one for competition & one for fun.....just a thought.
(I am leaning towards this idea)

But, for now......
All I ask is that everyone visit all entries during each challenge & leave comments.
I will select 1 or 2  photos at the end of the challenge.  One from the Beginners & one from the Advanced.  We will keep the 2 categories for now, but that may be subject to change, also.

This recent challenge will be the last week for voting.

If anyone would like to email me on their thoughts, I welcome all comments.
I am trying to keep this a community effort.

Special thanks to Rob & Vicki for everything they have done to make this challenge a success.
&...... Thank you all for participating in each challenge!!  Everyone has been very kind & considerate in all our Community Challenges, & that is what is important.

Hi Marie, I haven't had time to do the photo challenge as yet but I like the idea of it being just for fun with no judging. When I get some more time to myself I'll enter some pics. Jeannette xx

Being a recently new participator and hobby photographer I think this takes the pressure off of having to do something else besides just entering a  photo for pure enjoyment.
Thanks

I hope you'll do what YOU want to do, Marie.  This was in fact, your creation and nobody is forced to participate.  There are plenty of opportunities out there in jland (as well as other blogging sites), for sharing photos for the fun of it or for the simple enjoyment of it.  What I liked about this, what that it was different.  It challenged me to push myself to do more with my photos.  It got me out shooting again, which was one of the many things I have let go of in recent years.  I looked forward to it, and to ME at least, it WAS fun ~ whether I placed or not.

But I respect your decision and hope that you will still consider bringing the "Challenge" back at some point.  I like the idea of having two options ~ to post for fun or to post with the understanding that you will be judged.  Just don't give up!  You, Vicki and Rob have put so much effort into making this what it is, and I applaud you all.

This past challange was only the 2nd one I entered.  I must say that everyone who found thier way to my journal was so wonderful and left the nicest comments.  And I had the greatest time looking at everyones photos also, no matter what, it's just plain fun.

You all have done a great job with this challenge. I have enjoyed joining in on it. I do prefer doing it just for fun though. Thanks to you all, Helen

I am not sure how I feel....  so I will just say...
You do what makes you happy.  I do it for fun either way.  I liked the challenge because it makes me think outside of the box.  Not because I am delusional and think I can actually compete with those that have taken classes, still take classes, do it for monetary purposes or professionally.   My little camera and the 'eye' I've been told I have just likes to take pictures.   You once asked about an SRL... I had no idea what it was and I'm still not sure I do.   What I do know is I checked them out and almost choked at the prices.  LOL  This girl will be staying with her cheapo camera for a long time to come.
Thanks for all you do and we will all respect your decision.
hugs

While I've never been crazy about the voting issue - I was more concerned that it would be a popularity contest not a real judging of the photographs.  There have been several voting of blogs/photographs in j-land before and many were more popularity.

Maybe an option to consider would be to have a non-judging entry section and then an area for those who want the judging.  That might be more work than what it's worth.  It's just a suggestion.

All in all this is your baby to do what you want with it.

Marie,

I participated for fun, way to meet other photo journalist and discover their journals. Honestly my concern was the work for you and Vicki would have running your wonderful idea.  I have found over the years, while the most worthwhile ideas are great you will not please everyone as hard as you might try.

I do have an idea.....
*What if you/we choose a topic.
*No voting
*Keep the two areas, beginners and advance.
*I don't think we should make this mandatory for every entered image (no one would enter their images) but if someone posts a photo, is willing to share both the original and finished photo.

Add simple instructions on what they  created, making the image better.
Cropped, burnt, lighten, color enhanced etc.

Not only would this idea be beneficial helping others and a nice way to still share their images.

It is only a suggestion, if you are interested and everyone else likes the idea.....it would have to fine tuned.

I think this is a great idea....to go with two categories for either competition or non-competition.  I think the voting potetially puts a bad taste in people's mouths even though it is just recognition that is gained by winning.  I think everyone gets recognized as people click on the links and see the photos.  I would like to see the challenge continued as it is a very well done project that gets people out shooting and thinking about creating pictures.

I've been offline for a bit and did not enter the last Challenge.  That does not mean I have lost interest.  I will participate whether there is voting or not.  I think this has been a fun way to explore what I know and don't know about photography.  I have gained a lot of knowledge and met some great people through this Challenge series.  I would hate to see it end.  So, roll on... in whatever form ... I'll be along for the ride.

I deceided to enter to see if anyone else liked what I take, and it got more people round to my humble lil blog.I started a photo journal under a different screenie(as Guido pointed out((smile)) - it was called Expose.I didn't have judging and got very few people interested.I got very disillusioned and closed it.Now I have a blog where I just put some of my pics .[http://journals.aol.com/specialadyfink/MYPHOTOSSHOWCASE_TIMELESS/]
I must say I was thrilled to receive my second place award.it made it all seem worthwhile, but at the same time I joined for the fun of it...So either way you go-I'll be there with ya...
